I wonder if you can give good examples of curbing-singers except Christina Aguilera?
I would also be thankful if you try to give examples that don't sing with very crappy curbing like Mariah Carey (Now I'm very mean to her)
Is Whitney Houston a good Curbing singer?
Thankie! |

What about Beyonce and Kelly Clarkson, of course I always want to mention Stevie Wonder, yes he is a guy, but his color is often so light that he could almost pass for a girl... |

I agree with mungfjeld! But it should be noted that Beyoncé uses quite some Neutral and Overdrive too and Kelly uses some N and O too.
Whitney isn't a big Curber, if you want to hear her Curb you should listen to her louder high notes (louder nót LOUD). She uses loads of Overdrive and Neutral (the high notes mainly). |

I'm not sure, but I'd say that Lara Fabian is also a good curber. _________________ "Every night before falling asleep, I touch myself and I look for my shadow to be sure that I'm alive. | She does use some curbing on the clip, but I'd say that she is more of an overdriver. |

ok I see...
I'm after a singer who is mostly in the centre of curbing a lot... or is Aguilera really the best example for it? I don't think so!
It must be a woman singer! |

Hmmm... yeah, X-tina isn't a great example of centered Curbing. Sometimes she does it to sing really high, like above the Overdrive limit, but there's often a lot of Overdrive mixed in.
I can think of plenty of singers who use a lot of Curbing, but the problem is finding ones who mainly use centered Curbing! _________________ Everything on my posts is speculation or suggestion. I'm NOT a voice teacher -- I'm a voice student. |

Ohh, too bad!
'Cause right now I'm insecure if I do sing curbing correctly or not.
Does singing curbing has the same feeling as singing in overdrive, just with a lower volume and less bite. Like does it resonance the same in both of those modes in the "mask"?
Hope u get what I mean haha |

Hmmm... well, it certainly can. That feeling probably has more to do with necessary twang, especially for singing in a metallic mode, than with Curbing specifically.
If you want to post a clip, then we can comment. But I bet your Curbing is in better shape than you think. _________________ Everything on my posts is speculation or suggestion. I'm NOT a voice teacher -- I'm a voice student. |

Hi all,
Good examples of Curbing:
* All R 'N B singers
* Fado (Portugal) & Flamenco (Spain) singers
* Polyphonic chant from Corsica & Sardegna
* Arabic singers & Rai singers (Oum Kalthoum, Khaled, Cheb Mami etc.)
Examples of Curbing songs:
* Alicia Keys: 'If I Ain't Got You' (high pitch)
* Edith Piaf: 'Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien'
* De Palmas: 'J'en Rêve Encore' (especially the chorus)
* R Kelly: 'I Believe I Can Fly'
* Mike McDonald: 'What A Fool Believes'
* Amy Lee (Evanescence): Lithium (high pitch)
Hope this will B of help _________________ "B yourself: everyone else is taken"

I think that a good example of centered curbing (or at least it is to my ears, I might be entirely wrong, I suck at recognizing modes, so if someone can correct me, I'd appreciate it) is Simone Simons towards the high notes when she's not using neutral (which is very often, but very easily recognized because she uses a dark colour, more operatic), but specially in the new Epica albums, she uses a lot more curbing, she has developed it tremendously compared to their first album which was pretty much neutral...
Check these videos out, I know it's metal and you probably don't listen to that music much, but she's a great singer:
